  History 
Narsinghgarh City History ----   .
                                 The town is nearly 300 years old having been founded in 1681 by Dewan ParasramAfter partition Rawat Paras Ramji named his state after Bhagwan Shri Narsingh (incarnation of God Vishnu), who was his deity and aradhya Dev. Thereafter, he founded the town of Narsinghgarh and transferred his capital there and constructed the temple of his aradhya Dev Shri Narsingh Bhagwan. He built a tank known as Paras Ram Sagar The Beautiful LACK in the town in which isreflected the old FORT and palace still bears the name of the founder.

Beauty )                   The site of the town is the place of temple of Shiva - then known as Topila Mahadeo, for the persons who lived there manufactured topples or basket.   Hence the name stick. It is however in the autumnal months that the place becomes exceedingly picturesque and beautiful. From the top of the Baijnath Mahadeo temple the pleasant panorama is very appealing, with the lakes of full limpid water, with the land carpeted in lush green grass, with the small streams racing down the slopes of the hills and hills themselves covered with good vegetation and as rustling wind sweeps the murmuring countryside adorned with mellowing crops, radiant in the evening sun, the brilliance of blue skies seems to evenly matched with the grandeur of the green.

2.-History of Maharaj Kunwar Chain Singh ji “Amar  Shaheed of Malwa” -

The 1st and youngest ruler in india who Fight aginst East INDIA COMPANY -1824 on His (Military station) called Chavni at SEHORE.   .  Kuwar Chain Singh ji married with Kuwrani RAJAWATI ji from Muvaliya a Royal Thikana (Jageer) of Narsinghgarh State and and his forefather Belong to Royal Rajawat family of Jaipur. Kuwar Chain singh ji’s Mother Belong to Royal MHARANA family Udaypur MEWAR .   Due to illness of  his Father Rawat Sobhag Singhji,  Prince Chain Singhji was in charge of the administration of the State. Prince Chain Singh ji was courageous, brave and intelligent. He was a highly self-respecting person. He ruled the State with a firm hand giving justice to one and all evenly. The People of Narsinghgarh State admired him and held him in high respect.
Historical evidence says Prince Chain Singhji was reluctant to acknowledge the supremacy of the East India Company. This irritated the Company and they were waiting to get to his jugular vein. In a planned murder one palace official named Vora who was returning from the palace was assassinated. The Company held Prince Chain Singhji responsible behind the murder and asked him to leave the State and proceed to Banaras. The Prince refused to accept the murder charge and defied the Company.

This was considered as rebellion by the East India Company. As a result a battle took place between Prince Chain singhji's forces and military of East India Company in 1824 at Sehore a town about 37 kilometer West of Bhopal.
  
He fought valiantly and died in the battle at the age of 24 years. 
 Kunwar Chain Singh ji SAMADI -- His Samadhi is built near the battlefield. He is considered as “Amar Shaheed of Malwa,” and as such recognized officially by the government of Madhya Pradesh. All communities go to his Samadhi and offer prayers and seek his blessings. Himmat Khan and Bahadur Khan, Jagirdars of Dhanora of Narsinghgarh State were killed along with him. Their tombs are built near the Samadhi of Prince Chain Singh ji at Sehor.  

*Kunwar Chain Singh ji Jayanti- ---------- Every Year Government of Madhya Pradesh healed a  Program on 24-july called Saheed Kunwar Chain Singh ji jayanti  Samaroh , whre a Julus Start from his SAMADHI at Char-Bag Narsinghgarh . ***

*Kuwrani ji- Kunwar chain Singh ji wife- --------*** Kunwar Chain Singh ji married with Kuwrani RAJAWATI ji from Thikana-Muvaliya a Royal Thikana of Narsinghgarh State  just 3km from city his forefather Belong to Royal Rajawat family of Jaipur***, After Veergati of Saheed Kunwar Cahin singh ji his wife Kuwrani Rajawati ji took a Life time FAST without Food only takes (pado ke patte) and Make a Temple at Parsuram Sagar  called “KAWRANI JI MANDIR “ for Pray to GOD  . *Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi ask for help: -
Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi had heard about Prince Chain Singhji's rebellious attitude towards the East India Company and the battle he fought with the Company at Sehore in 1824. She decided to approach the Narsinghgarh State for help in the first war of Independence of 1857 against the Company to which the then Ruler of Narsinghgarh agreed. But unfortunately before Narsinghgarh could render any sort of help, the Rani was surrounded by the Company forces at Gwalior and she became a martyr.

After the martyrdom of Rani Lakshmi Bai, Tantya Tope her close confidant and main supporter in the first struggle for Indian Independence of 1857 came to Narsinghgarh and was clandestinely kept by the Ruler in the thick forest of Kantora just behind the Fort Palace for quite a long time till he moved to another location to carry out his struggle ..


3. Historical Movements ------
  (image of Film AAN or DilipKumar)    *** Bollywood's 1st color Film of india  “AAN”-Actors-Dilip Kumar-Nadira, Prem Chopra, was shot in Narsinghgarh and nearby jungles by famous Film Director & Producer MAHBOB KHAN who came here in 1952 for the purpose of AAN film Shooting. they Shot  Film atNarsinghgarh FortParsuram Sagar Lake or Gaughati and after Seeing Beauty of Narsinghgarh he Called it “MALWA-E-KASHMIR”  but after that Film AAN no one Film Director come hear because of infrastructure like Hotel, Restaurant etc. Narsinghgarh have many wide areas or Locations for the purpose of Film Shooting *** 
4.History of ARTS & Music -----  
The Rulers of Narsinghgarh were patrons of Arts and Music.
The Malwa School of Arts as known today had its origin in the Narsinghgarh School of Arts in 18th and 19th Century. Madhav Das was the artist. His colletions of paintings were known as `Rag Ragini`. The temples of Kunwarani ji and Chapawatji built by the Ranis of Narsinghgarh on the banks of Paras Ram Sagar depicted the paintings of Krishna Leela. From Narsinghgarh it was carried to Mandu and thus later on called the Malwa School of Arts. 

Ustad Rajab Ali Khan the renowned singer of "Khayal Gayaki" who received many state, national and private awards from 1909 till 1955 was born in Narsinghgarh in 1874. His father Mughal khan was the musician at the Royal Court of Narsinghgarh.

Among many disciples of Ustad Rajab Ali Khan was the famous classical singer Ustad Amir Khan. The well known TV Actor Shahbaz Khan, who played the role of Mahadji Scindia in the “Great Maratha “serial is the son of Ustad Amir Khan.

The renowned and one of the greatest "CHHAYAWAD" poet of Hindi literature was Mahadevi Verma. She started writing poetry when she was at Narsinghgarh. Her father Babu Govind Prasad served the State as Naib Dewan and her brothers were educated at the Narsinghgarh High School.





History of writers and literature 

1. Th.Shankar Singh ji Rajawat – (Image of shankar singh ji) *** Thakur Shankar Singh ji Rajawat Belong from Thikana –Muvaliya in Narsinghgarh State. He was connected with all famous Poet and Writers of India. he write a Book Named  “Vartman Ki Sandi Rekah”  its old Name sandhi Rekah but Famous Writer Shri Mathili Saran Gupt told him  for the new Name  “Vartman ki Sandhi Rekha” . the Book was published from ALWAR PRAKASHAN . ***  







Narsinghgarh State Rulers History 

.-History of Rulers----- (1681-1957)
---------- Rulers of Narsinghgarh State-

The Royal family of Narsinghgarh is well connected directly and indirectly in relationship with all the important Rajput Royal families of India. The State of Narsinghgarh was carved out of the State of Rajgarh by Paras Ramji, the younger brother of the then Ruler of Rajgarh, Rawat Mohan Singhji in 1681 A. D 

Rawat Paras Ramji (1681-95)
After partition Rawat Paras Ramji named his state after Bhagwan Shri Narsingh (incarnation of God Vishnu), who was his deity andaradhya Dev. Thereafter, he founded the town of Narsinghgarh and transferred his capital there and constructed the temple of his aradhya Dev Shri Narsingh Bhagwan. He built a tank known as Paras Ram Sagar. He was a just and a capable Ruler.




Raja Pratap Singhji (1873-90)
His Highness Raja Pratap Singhji succeeded his grandfather Raja Hanwant Singhji in 1873. He was strong, brave, hardworking and painstaking. He was the first Rajput Ruler to visit England and had the audience with her Majesty Queen Empress Victoria in 1887. The degree of D. C. L. was conferred upon him by the University of Edinburgh.

Raja Pratap Singhji married the niece of His Highness Maharaja Jaswant Singhji of Jodhpur. Raja Pratap Singhji died at the age of 38 without any issue.



Raja Mehtab Singhji (1890-95)
Raja Pratap Singhji was succeeded by his uncle His Highness Raja Mehtab Singhji in 1890, the only surviving son of Raja Hanwant Singhji. His ways were like his father Raja Hanwant Singhji. He toured his state every year and dispensed justice to his subjects on the spot with even-hands.



Raja Arjun Singhji (1895-1924)
Raja Mehtab Singhji died without any issue. The government of India selected His Highness Raja Arjun Singhji aged 9 years from Bhatkhera and installed him as the Ruler of Narsinghgarh. He was educated at Mayo College Ajmer and Daly College Indore and got training at the Imperial Cadet corps at Dehradun. Raja Arjun Singhji had two wives, first one was Princess Shiv Kunwarji of Sailana.

He had a son Prince Vikram Singhji born in 1909 and two daughters, Princess Damyanti Kumaribai Sahiba married to His Highness Mahrawal Girdhar Singhji of Jaisalmer, Princess Hemant Kumaribai Sahiba married to Raja Digvijaichandji of Jubbal (Himachal Pradesh). From the second wife, who was the Rajkumari of Talsana in Gujarat, he had one daughter Princess Basant Kumaribai Sahiba married to Raja Sumer Singhji of Indargarh (Rajasthan).



Maharaja Vikram Singhji (1924-57)
His Highness Maharaja Vikram Singhji succeeded to the throne in 1924 and was installed with full powers in 1929. His first marriage was to be solemnized with the Princess Jeet Kunwarba Sahiba daughter of His Highness Maharao Swaroop Ram Singhji of Sirohi in Rajasthan. But the princess fell ill the very morning of the marriage and just before the marriage ceremony she died.

Thereafter, Maharaja Vikram Singhji married Princess Dev Kumariji daughter of His Highness Mirza Maharao Vijayrajji of Kachchh (Gujarat). He was educated at the Daly College Indore and Mayo College Ajmer. He was a kind hearted and highly respected Ruler and enjoyed a good standing among his brother Princes and Rulers of India. He was dearly loved and respected by his subjects. He was made K. C. I. E. in 1941 by King Emperor George VI of Britain. Maharaja Sir Vikram Singhji K. C. I. E. acceded his state to India before 15th August, 1947 and signed on the merger agreement in April 1948. Thus the State of Narsinghgarh merged into the new State of Madhya Bharat.



Maharaja Bhanu Prakash Singhji (1957)
Son of Maharaj Prabhunath Singhji, uncle of Maharaja Sir Vikram Singhji, was born in June 1929 and adopted by his late Highness Maharaja Sir Vikram Singhji on 19th July 1942. He succeeded to the throne on 17th July 1957. He was educated at the Mayo College Ajmer, Daly College Indore and St. John's College Agra.
















इस किले से उमठ-परमार राजाओं ने रियासत में तो शासन किया ही। देश की आजादी के तुरंत बाद के दौर में इस किले से एक बेहद खूबसूरत याद भी जुड़ी। उन दिनों भारत की पहली रंगीन फिल्म आन की आउटडोर शूटिंग का ज्यादातर हिस्सा नरसिंहगढ़ और इसके आसपास के इलाकों में फिल्माया गया था। फिल्म सन 1949 में बननी शुरू हुई थी और सन 1952 में रिलीज हुई थी। इसमें नरसिंहगढ़ के किला, जलमंदिर, कोटरा के साथ देवगढ़, कंतोड़ा, रामगढ़ के जंगल, गऊघाटी के हिस्सों में फिल्म के बड़े हिस्से को शूट किया गया था। फिल्म को देश के पहले शोमेन मेहबूब खान ने बनाया था। जिनकी सन 1957 में रिलीज क्लासिक फिल्म मदर इंडिया विश्व सिनेमा के इतिहास का महत्वपूर्ण दस्तावेज है। फिल्म में दिलीप कुमार, नादिरा, निम्मी, मुकरी, शीलाबाज, प्रेमनाथ, कुक्कू, मुराद ने प्रमुख भूमिकाएं निभाई थीं।

किले का स्थापत्य आज भी अपनी खूबसूरती से सैलानियों का ध्यान खींचता है।

























Narsinghgarh is a very beautiful city for the purpose of Tourism.
